Barzani Pledges to Support Opposition Gorran
By The Hawler Tribune
18/10/2009

Iraqi Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani promises to support the opposition, if they distinguish the positive from the negative.

The Kurdistan Region held elections on July 25th in the northern Iraq. For the first time, in those elections, a viable opposition named Gorran, or Change in Kurdish, emerged well and got 25 out of 111 parliament seats.

“We would like to have an opposition, but that opposition has to see all sides.  They should say this is good, if a good thing is done, and say bad, if a bad thing is done. It should not only see the negative things and ignore the positive ones. If the oppositions behaves as the first one does, I support it and tell the Prime Minster to listen to them and be helpful to the,” said Barzani in a meeting with British Council to the Kurdistan Region.
