Barzani to Visit to Washington Soon
Kurdistan's president (right) meeting with US President Obama.

Iraqi Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani is expected to visit the United States in the few coming days to discuss the US-Kurdistan relations and the issues of the disputed territories including oil-rich city of Kirkuk.

Barzani's visit to Washington is his first visit this year on a formal invitation of the White House. In the previous weeks a delegation of top Kurdish officials was also to the US and reportedly future US-Kurd relations were discussed in their meetings with US officials.

Falah Mustafa, Head of Kurdistan's Foreign Relations Office, stated that the unresolved issues between the Iraqi central government and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are going to be within the scope of the upcoming meeting of the two presidents of Barzani and Obama.

"The role of President Barzani is considered serious and important by the US in upcoming national elections to be held in March. Serious attempts are required to make the elections reflect all the Iraqi population with all its factions," added Mr. Mustafa Thursday in an interview with Kurdish-language newspaper Aso.

Mustfa hailed the White House invitation to President Barzani as "important and valuable" for the Kurds. Washington has already issued a press release expressing its support for the implementation of article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, something Kurds want to happen.
